Productivity advice from a rail splitter

"If I had six hours to chop down a tree, I would spend the first four hours sharpening the ax."
Apparently Abe Lincoln said that.

Good advice.  Get the right tools, and keep them in good working order.

My problem is that if I have six hours to cut down a tree, I will spend 5 hours and 51 minutes sharpening the ax, because for me most of the fun is in the planning and preparing stage of a job, and the actual productivity itself is only moderately satisfying.

I know I am eccentric, so you don't have to tell me.
